A project showcasing how to refine homepage navigation and streamline tool discovery for a seamless user experience.
View prototypeVyond’s in-app homepage was redesigned to optimize tool discovery and streamline navigation, addressing critical user pain points. By aligning user needs with business objectives, the redesign improved feature accessibility, enhanced workflow efficiency, and increased engagement.
Vyond is a leading video creation platform that empowers users to easily create professional animated content. With powerful tools and AI-driven features, it transforms communication for training, marketing, and internal engagement, making storytelling accessible and impactful.
In our early concept discovery for an all-in-one experience, we identified an opportunity to enhance the user journey by revamping the in-app homepage. This redesign transformed the homepage into a unified hub that boosts engagement and streamlines access to creative workflows.
Early Concept Discovery, User Experience Design, User Research
For this project, I followed a structured discovery and inception design process.
During the discovery phase of developing an all-in-one user experience, I began by mapping the existing platform tools and user flows. This involved cataloging user-created content types and defining the purpose of each tool. Analysis of usage data revealed low engagement across key tools, with even the most popular tool, Text-to-Video (Vyond Go), exhibiting a low engagement rate of 10%. This insight highlighted underlying issues in how users accessed and interacted with the platform, which led to the identification of key user problems:
◆ No Centralized Tool Access: Users lacked a unified space to access all platform tools, including Generative AI features.
◆ Tool Integration Gaps: Key tools, such as the AI avatar, were not seamlessly connected to the studio, disrupting workflow continuity.
◆ Fragmented User Journey: Users had to navigate across multiple pages to complete tasks, weakening the connection between tool outputs and the main editor.
◆ Limited Iterative Processes: Features like AI Avatar and Text-to-Video (Vyond Go) provided a one-way journey where users couldn't adjust inputs or fine-tune results without starting from scratch.
These insights revealed critical gaps in the existing homepage, which hindered discoverability, tool engagement, and workflow efficiency. Recognizing the need for a cohesive and intuitive hub, I collaborated with stakeholders to define a strategic design direction focused on enhancing access to features, streamlining navigation, and eliminating dead ends. Out of the three focus areas, enhancing access to features was prioritized. Positioning the homepage as a dynamic entry point that makes a strong first impression and prominently showcases essential tools became the agreed direction for achieving this goal.
To bring this vision to life, the homepage was reimagined as a user-centric, functional space designed to guide users toward their goals with minimal friction. The design process prioritized structuring the homepage into clear, purpose-driven sections that align with both user needs and business objectives.
Insight 1: Low Engagement with Existing Tool Discovery
◆ User Research Findings: Analytics showed that the existing carousel banner had an engagement rate of just 10.5%, indicating low user interaction. Usability testing also revealed that many users were unaware of AI-driven tools like Text-to-Image, despite their availability for some time.
✅ Design Decision: A dedicated Tools Section replaced the carousel, instantly showcasing AI-powered tools alongside other essential features. Additionally, a centralized Tools Page was introduced, providing a single location where users can explore and access all tools.
◆ Reasoning: The previous carousel required users to scroll or wait for slides to change, creating unnecessary friction in tool discovery. Surfacing tools immediately improves visibility, removes extra steps, and enhances the overall intuitiveness of the experience. The Tools Page further enhances discoverability by ensuring all tools and sub-settings are accessible without requiring users to navigate multiple layers.
◆ Expected Impact: Increased tool discoverability, reduced friction in starting creative tasks, and improved user engagement with AI-driven features.
Insight 2: Supporting Returning Users with Seamless Workflow Continuity
◆ User Research Findings: While users could access their recent files inside homepage, they still had to manually search for frequently used tools, adding unnecessary steps to their workflow.
✅ Design Decision: Expanded the Recently Used Section to include both recent files and frequently used tools. This allows returning users to jump back into their work instantly, reducing friction and saving time.
◆ Reasoning: Industry best practices from platforms like Google Docs, Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma emphasize “Recent Files” and “Recent Tools” to help users efficiently resume work. This approach aligns with Nielsen’s heuristic for recognition over recall, ensuring users can quickly locate ongoing projects and preferred tools without excessive navigation.
◆ Expected Impact: Faster task completion, improved retention, and enhanced productivity by reducing the time spent searching for previous projects and frequently used tools.
Business Goal: Showcasing Vyond’s Strength in Content Library
◆ Strategic Objective: The homepage needed to highlight Vyond’s rich template and content library to reinforce its value proposition and help users jumpstart video creation with professionally designed content.
✅ Design Decision: Introduced a Template and Content Section on the homepage to showcase trending templates and categorized content.
◆ Reasoning: Leading creative platforms like Canva and Adobe Express prominently surface high-quality templates to drive engagement, reduce friction, and inspire content creation. Additionally, showcasing a diverse library enhances perceived value and strengthens Vyond’s market positioning.
◆ Expected Impact: Increased template adoption, faster video creation, and improved user perception of Vyond’s content variety, supporting the business goal of reinforcing Vyond’s competitive advantage.
Based on the identified challenges, the Tools Section and Tools Page were prioritized. The static banner was replaced with a dynamic Tools Section, providing instant access to AI-powered and essential tools. The Tools Page serves as a centralized hub where users can explore all tools in one place.
Sub-settings like Doc to Video and URL to Video inside Vyond Go, previously buried within features, were surfaced as individual entry points for easier discovery. Selecting a sub-setting now opens the corresponding feature with it pre-selected, allowing users to engage immediately without extra steps.
This streamlined navigation enhances workflow efficiency, improves discoverability, and drives user engagement toward subscription conversion.
We conducted usability testing sessions to evaluate the overall homepage redesign, with a particular focus on the Tools Section and Tools Page. Data was gathered via session recordings and task completion analysis to capture first impressions and evaluate the ease of onboarding. I then analyzed the data using affinity mapping, identifying key patterns and insights that would guide further refinements.
◆ Homepage: New users appreciated the overall layout, which immediately showcased key features and reduced cognitive load. Even though we did not explicitly mention the term "all-in-one," users perceived the homepage as providing a unified experience, which aligns with our design intent. However, some found template section labels unclear particularly "Explainer" and "Mixed media" templates, indicating a need for improved communication.
◆ Tools Page: Users found the structure intuitive, enabling a smoother start to creative tasks with minimal friction. The visuals helped them understand what each tool does, further enhancing the overall experience. However, users could not correlate Vyond Go with the four options presented underneath and expected AI tools to be grouped together, signaling a need for clearer organization and labeling on the Tools Page.
◆ Renamed Vyond Go to "Vyond Go – Create AI Videos Instantly" for better clarity. This refinement addresses user confusion, making it immediately clear that the tool enables AI-powered video creation, ultimately increasing confidence and adoption.
◆ Moved the entry point to the Tools Page above the Template tab to reflect its higher hierarchy in the information architecture. As core functionalities, tools take priority over templates, which serve as starting points. Placing the Tools Page entry higher ensures quicker access to essential features.
◆ Maintained the existing AI tool grouping despite user expectations for a dedicated AI section. While users anticipated all AI tools to be grouped together, we intentionally kept AI Avatar and Vyond Go in their current positions, as they are key AI-powered features the company aims to highlight. Given their broader impact compared to other AI tools, this structure ensures they remain prominent and easily discoverable.
Based on prioritized user feedback, we finalized the Tools Section on the homepage and the Tools Page, ensuring an intuitive and engaging experience. These refinements were guided by usability insights while strategically balancing feature discoverability and workflow efficiency.
With these updates, we are confident that the redesigned homepage and Tools Page will improve feature discoverability, enhance user engagement, and support a seamless creative workflow—aligning with both user needs and business objectives.
The homepage revamp delivered measurable results. Text-to-Video usage increased by 29%, confirming that better discoverability drives AI feature adoption. Before the redesign, Text-to-Video had only a 10% engagement rate due to poor visibility and a disconnected user journey. The new homepage streamlined access, making tools easier to find and use.
Engagement among paying users increased by 7%, indicating that simplified navigation improved access to Vyond’s core features. The optimized homepage directly enhanced user adoption and engagement.
The next improvements will enhance the Template and Content Section to better showcase Vyond’s strengths and refine the Recently Used Section for a smoother workflow.
Beyond that, the priorities are:
◆ Streamlining navigation for a more intuitive user flow
◆ Eliminating dead ends to ensure users always have a clear next step
Through continuous iteration, the goal is to make Vyond even more efficient, intuitive, and action-driven.
